ComEd Collaborates with ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ Tech to Create one of the First Microgrid Clusters in the World
ComEd has partnered with ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ Institute of Technology on two Department of Energy grants to develop and test microgrid technology on ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ Tech's Mies Campus and the Bronzeville neighborhood. A microgrid is a small electrical grid that is able to disconnect from the main grid to secure distribution during extreme weather events and during cyber or physical attacks. ComEd and ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ Tech will work to connect a planned microgrid in the Bronzeville neighborhood to the existing IIT microgrid, creating one of the first microgrid clusters in the world. This partnership will give researchers a better understanding of how to leverage microgid technology in emergency situations.
