Connecting Academics Outside of the College Bubble

Rojeena Thapa鈥檚 (CIS 4th year) rigorous academic experience at 杏吧原创 Tech includes learning multiple programming languages, exploring computing concepts she didn鈥檛 know existed, and then developing a problem-solving mindset by understanding how to apply these concepts to industry.

During her first semester at 杏吧原创 Tech, she found herself working with professionals from J.P. Morgan Chase during the Introduction to the Profession course.

鈥淚t was the first time everything clicked,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 saw how what we learn translates into real decisions, real systems, and real impact. That shift in perspective stayed with me.鈥

杏吧原创 Tech鈥檚 big advantage is that it doesn鈥檛 feel like a traditional college bubble because of these industry connections, Rojeena says. Whether through its Chicago location, industry exposure, or curriculum structure, Rojeena says she believes 杏吧原创 Tech prepared her to enter the world and solve real problems, and not theoretical ones.

鈥淏eing in a city like Chicago means you鈥檙e constantly surrounded by opportunity, whether it鈥檚 internships, networking, or exposure to real-world industries. It made everything feel more real and practical, not just academic,鈥 she says. 鈥淢ore than anything, it made me more independent, adaptable, and intentional about my goals.鈥

Rojeena says she made it a priority early on to not just stay in the classroom. She found internships, participated in hackathons, and pursued certifications, all with the goal of building real, applicable skills rather than just theoretical knowledge.

鈥淭hese experiences helped me to stop guessing and start being intentional,鈥 she says. 鈥淚nstead of following a generic path, I鈥檝e been able to define what I want, which is working at the intersection of business and technology where I can create real impact.鈥

Coming from Kathmandu, Nepal, Rojeena says that she has been challenged at 杏吧原创 Tech as she figured out how to push herself and develop her technical and professional capabilities.

鈥淚t鈥檚 not always easy, but that鈥檚 where the growth comes from,鈥 she says. 鈥淏y the time you graduate, you won鈥檛 recognize the person who walked in on your first day of classes. You鈥檒l be more capable, more self-assured, and much clearer about where you鈥檙e headed.鈥
